DEVELOPING INFORMATION LITERACY IN THE WESTERN BALKANS

These training visits to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, Montenegro and Albania concerned the delivery of IL training which is one of the main activities of the Development workpackage of the project..

This series of one week training visits saw  IL training delivered by EU partners to participants in various Universities in the Tempus project. In each country these visits involved delivery of IL training to all the key stakeholders in universities who are partners in the project  and to other stakeholders in the Region such as public libraries and local communities. They also involved meetings with key representatives from the Universities and with other stakeholder’s e.g. public libraries for exchange of experience to enable updating of knowledge regarding best IL training practice and to discuss the progress of IL implementation in Western Balkan society.

These one week training events were run under the remit of the Information Literacy Training Working Group (ILTWG) of this Tempus project. The ILTWG is made up of delegate librarians/professors from each Consortium member – whose role is to set up a shared version of IL, Guidelines for the permanent training of librarians and teaching staff and to oversee and guide the Information Literacy training process in each institution.
